A Rememberance for Clay

A celebration of life was held on August 31, 2008 in Lander, Wyoming. It was a beautiful day and many great folks were able to attend and help us remember a life well lived.

Some fun stories were told and if you have any additional stories involving Clay and his "whacky ways" we'd love to have you share them on this blog.

Here is a meditation prayer which beautifully summarizes our (and Clay's) wishes for all who were part of the celebration and read this blog.

May all beings be happy, content and fulfilled.
May all beings be healed and whole.
May all have whatever they want and need.
May all be protected from harm and free from fear.
May all beings enjoy inner peace and ease.
May all be awakened, liberated and free.

May there be peace in the world, and throughout the universe.

Impressions

Life is a precious gift. Even so, it cannot be clung to with the fear of loss. Instead, it must be fully explored with wonder and delight. Clay has approached life that way more than anyone else I have had the privilege of knowing.

In all cultures, there are stories of the “crazy sage” who lives an apparently random life, showing up unexpectedly, opening people’s minds to thoughts and questions they had dared not consider, and then disappearing as quickly as he came. I know that Clay has had this effect on others he has met. He certainly had that effect on me. He has not only been my brother; he has also been the crazy sage who continually encourages me to examine my own thoughts, beliefs and choices.

These gifts (along with his tutorials on the many uses of duct tape) I will treasure always.

Hello dear Rachel and all of your collective families,
I am writing from Anchorage, and am
already feeling like I should have been there this week with all of you. I have had Clay with me this week, and have shared Clay's profile with friends and family who have never met Clay. I believed
the more prayers going out to him, wherever he is, the better!
I can hear him laughing his great laugh, and can hear yours as well, Rachel. There is so much to say, but can feel and read that you have
support there, and so much more across these many miles.
I am ready to lend a hand in any way. Know my love, thoughts are prayers are with Clay and you all.

One thing Rachel, Dave Haney and I loved to do on the ice was part-sing, mostly Christmas carols, in the Chapel. I am now singing in a choir in Reno. We are rehearsing tonight in a church with amazing acoustics. While I am not traditionally religious, the music is so beautiful, one can imagine angels singing. Would that the angels will hear us tonight and roust our dear friend out of his "slumber" from our collective vision so we can find him. "Lift up thy voice and sing" as the hymn goes. Tonight I will sing for Clay.

I love you,
Liisa (Moosie)

Clay was too young to leave. He had too much to give, too much promise. I am 70, better to live this long or longer when you help people like Clay did. I knew Clay for about 10 years doing the same job but 800 miles away for the four month Austral Season.Neil Conant

I love you very much - now, you are my "substitute" biggest brother - OK?
A little sister always needs her big brothers ......
